Thanks

If a NT doesn't have anyone from that nation apply for the coach's position then the admins give the job to someone else who volunteers to do it.

In the last few cycles, it has tended to be New Zealand, Brazil and Bosnia who have had coaches of other nationalities. Currently these 3 NTs and Slovenia are coached by managers from other countries. I also coached New Zealand last cycle and I know they were coached the cycle before that by another UK manager.

It's meant to be a short term fix, but its generally NTs who used to have a lot of active managers from that country but don't anymore e.g. there are currently only 2 or 3 active managers from New Zealand.

Personally I think it's good that some of us have the opportunity to gain some NT experience. I would love to coach the UK at some point in my GI career and managing other NTs can only help in the long run. Although I did feel a bit traitorous last cycle as I beat the UK twice in the WC qualification group with New Zealand and the UK then failed to qualify for last season's World Cup

Well, you were a traitor, but it says something for your character as you managed the NZ team as hard as they could play.

I'm not sure if that is a compliment or not

Thanks for the explanation. That brings something else to mind, as it seems like the same folks being shuffled around to fill different NT positions. How is it that the same folks seem to be getting the job for coaching these other NTs? Shouldn't the opportunity be spread to others? Who is doing the selecting? If it is advertised, then why is it that the same people are the only ones to get selected?

Too many questions....

It's not being advertised really. Basically if you see a NT without a coach, you send the admin a message saying you want to coach it. It's first come first serve. I coached Brazil 3 cycles ago. It was fun, but I don't plan on doing it again. It seems unfair that a country with no active managers goes out there and beats small countries that are actually trying. I didn't used to feel this way, but I've changed my mind on the matter.

Does it make the WC more exciting? Most definitely yes. Is it fair to the little countries who could beat, say Brazil if they botted, but get dominated by a foreign coach? No. If the coach was Brazilian, then Brazil deserves that win. Unless voting is opened to anyone for any country, then I think a foreign player managing a NT is unfair

I agree with your thoughts. I also see this as unfair. Not only to the small countries, but also to the other coaches who have no clue that this is being done.

I am not trying to start an argument or rain on anyone's parade, I just had some questions about how this was being done.

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah as Belau said its first come first served. There is an element of luck as well, as in if you're online when they put all the new NT managers in. Might not be the fairest system but it's the only system the admins have at the moment. I do think more managers have become more aware of this situation in the last couple of cycle.

With regard to the other thing, IMO it's better to have a NT coached by an active manager rather than just be a bot team for a whole cycle. I get the point that it might not be fair on smaller NTs but where is fun/skill in beating a bot? One thing I've learnt as a NT coach is that unexpected results crop up all the time and there are games when the underdogs win, so surely it would be more rewarding for a smaller NT to beat an active manager rather than a bot team.

Just my opinion though

Romania vs. Slovenia Match Report

Sadly, Slovenia lost today's winner take all match against Romania 56-35 and will not qualify for the World Cup.

The Romania offense was on fire today, putting up 42 points in the 1st half. The Slovenia D was unable to stop the Romanian playmakers and gave up several long TDs between 64 to 80 yards. Meanwhile the Slovenia offense had an average day putting up 21 points in the 1st half and 14 in the 2nd. Both QB's had similar completion percentages but Iulian Sumanariu dominated in overall yardage and yards per reception.

The 2nd half was a better showing from the Slovenian D only allowing 14 pts. Dejan Repnik started the 3rd quarter brightly with an interception on Romania's 1st drive. Unfortunately the offense were unable to capitalise and convert the turnover into points. The Slovenia offense did pull the game back to 42-35 at the beginning of the 4th quarter and it looked like a close finish might be in store. However, the Romania offense once again proved too strong scoring 2 more unanswered TDs.

The Slovenian NT is disappointed to be missing out on the upcoming World Cup, but qualification always seemed to be a difficult challenge considering the strength of the opposition they faced. Overall, the Slovenian NT played with pride and determination throughout the qualification campaign with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses to finish 3rd in the group. Russia and Romania will be going through to the World Cup from Group F.

Undoubtedly the Slovenian NT will have a new coach next cycle but the future looks bright for the team. All of Slovenia's offensive weapons; Edvard Skočaj (QB), Zdravko Šolar (WR), the Jeršič brothers (both TEs); are on active teams and will surely only get better. The defense needs more depth and talent, but if a few more promising young players step up then it won't be long before Slovenia appear at a future World Cup.

So at the end Slovenia had 2 wins against Canada and 4 lost games against Romania two and Russia two if I understand right?

Well, after all, we are a small country, we can't be dissapointed with this result . Hope that you will stay our national team coach and next time qualify on WC

Just tell us what to do in our clubs to make NT better I will help you definately.
