I will echo Gatr's thoughts. He is an incredible qb and will take div iv defenses apart. However I don't see him starting in season 20. There is an argument to put him in the squad if he has a chance of overtaking somw of the reserves by the end of season 20.

Phipps should probably be our starter at this point until one of the youngsters is ready to take over. Massaro is good, but he's about to turn 31, and I worry about his low energy levels, from the constant over training.

I have a list of 7 QB's I've been tracking, any of which would be an amazing replacement to Lofton in a couple of seasons. 4 of the 7 will still be 21 or younger next season. I'm sure there are others, these are just the ones I've noticed.

My QB Newton Rodriguez also has some potential at some point. I have been conservative in training up his passing skill and rounding him out in other areas as I don't need him to be a $100k salary QB in division II but his 4.5 star talent, 20 intelligence and 16 consistency mean he should be a very good QB for quite a while.

That's quite a player you've got there! I have to ask though: what spurred you to carry such an expensive player in D5 (and a soon-to-be more expensive player in D4)? Seems to stand out like a sore thumb from the rest of squad around him in terms of salary (obviously I don't know how many of your guys will pop up on roll over).
You'll be looking at spending a large wedge of cash to put a comprehensively good squad around him unless you're planning on waiting for your own guys to train up, at which point Staten will be fast closing in on 30 and possible retirement.

For the next two seasons, I think we should use Curtis Crespo (Kaz) or Edward Berkey (Hakers). They are both ready to go and can play with anybody. I won't share their data here, but they are both solid options for the immediate future. Phipps is a good choice too, but I would go with one of the first two

Pretty much my entire first team will go up somewhat in wages as soon as the turnover hits. However it is generally not by much so he will still be sticking out more than I would like. I didn't carry him in Div V (he was brought in after the last league match) so he is just sticking out in Div IV (and still won't be the most expensive in my division). I would have preferred a player with lower skills that was younger but can't always be choosy. I bought him for his untrainables which my own options were missing. While this seasons increase in wages will be relatively small I expect my wages to jump a lot more in the next few seasons. At QB he has a high chance of being useful beyond 30 as well. I could have waited two seasons but then he might not have been available.

His wages are easily soaked up into my team, I run a tight roster and am happy with how I have controlled (other) wages. Of course maybe I have mistimed my run and it will take too long for the team to be competitive for Hunter to play a major part and he will just suck the money that would have come in from keeping my old qb. That is my logic at least, I could be right and I could be wrong. I guess I will find out. I did spend an age trying to debate whether or not to buy him though.

Hunter is a no brainer, you take that player anytime you can get one. With the right moves, he will provide plenty of help to the rest of the team and their progress. Nobody lasts forever in this game and most teams continue to develop next generation players. When Assmus hangs it up, his back up will likely have 3-5 seasons to shine and then on to the next one

At this point, Phillips is the guy I could see getting it done the next couple seasons

Have you seen Crespos numbers? We really need to evaluate all the top guys, there are plenty out there. I'm just familiar with the NA TD and I've tracked these guys for 2 seasons and they are stronger now without sharing their information (almost as skilled as you can get)

I have.

I trust your judgement, but I'm curious as to why you like Crespo more than Phipps.
Phipps appears to have comparable stats, but with better intelligence and better consistency. Is it the str/spd numbers that sway you?
