I've a DE on my team he's 22, his speed is 20.40 and his strenght is 20.09, int is 16, TW 20, Con 16, tackle 18.31 and he's a five star talent. Is there anything else I need to do to get him up to NT standard.

As he's only 22 yrs old and his tackling is already at 18 (as well as having perfect physicals) i'd guess he's a one skill wonder?

What are his other position relevant skills like?

These will differ a bit depending on each manager's preference and ultimately it'll depend on the NT coach but what are his skill levels in agility, tacticals, footwork and stamina?

If these are all high or at least some of them (agility & stamina) then he'd have a shot at making the NT. However, it will always depend on the competition as there could be a lot of good DLs available.

This guy definitely looks to have the potential to make the NT at some point in his career but it might not be for a few seasons depending on other factors.

Also if you're not already it might be worthwhile to train him in a secondary role such as LB or GNR that way he would have added value to a NT coach as a utility player.

Hope that helps

Work on Agility, Footwork, Positioning and Stamina

His high teamwork and young age means he will be NT material sooner or later.

I would work on Agility, footwork and stamina before you bother with tacticals for the defensive line position. Please end stamina training once he reaches 19, as going to 20 stamina has produced strange performances during some matches. I have seen plenty of DL players dominate with tactics still low, so there is likely limited additional gain by raising these skills before the other 3 mentioned (tackling, agility and footwork

I imagine Coach would he able to shed light on this as well if you message him. He has the best idea of the standards required for the Irish team atm.

I need to follow gates advice a bit as well. My players tend to be too balanced for me to get the benefit of high skills till a lot of training has gone into them.

How high would you, personally, go with Tackling, Agility and Footwork before you started training Tactical skills?

It's a relatively new strategy that I am moving forward with. I took on the management job for team USA for the last cycle and noticed there were some candidates, I won't mention them by name, but Kentucky, for example, has a defensive line player that made the team, but I was hesitant to start him due to some skills not being up to par. I won't mention which skills, but there are some. This same player just tears it up week in and week out during league play and also during the AFLC last season, where I watched him very closely. Based on this, I picked up an Italian NT player to fill in at DE while I transition some players on the defensive line for this season. This player is a legitimate 5*bpos and fitness beast. Maxed out at tackling, agility and footwork, but tactics had never been trained. I have been training these, but at his age of 30, he will only reach 8 at tactics. He has been a beast, as expected from my research. Based on this, I will train tactics up to 7 and then leave them alone until my player gets to 18 or 19 in the other skills. He will be a starter and round out his career training tactics. Based on age and other factors, I will bump him to 20 in the key skills for that position and then go back to tactics. I'm not saying tactics can't have some impact, I'm just suggesting that it's very small in this position from what I've seen. Time is critical in getting players ready to start and if you know me, I'm a big proponent of the 3-5 skills for every position. There is a possibility of course that the DE position only uses 3 skills, perhaps some other positions too, but when I see consistent results with certain builds, then there is perhaps some substance to it

Luckily the tactical skills are the quickest to move so it doesn't take as long as some other skills.
