Is there any real difference between these two positions in GI. In the past it didn't matter because no one used the run. Now that it seems to have some use I was wondering if there is a difference. Same Q for the left/right option. If I have QB decides left and my RB is on the right, will he get used?

In my opinion the locations simply state which player will get the ball if a run play is called and each configuration has it's outcome. I also think that it determines which back tries to pick up the blitz when a linebacker decides to blitz. Again, each configuration has it's own outcome. A while back, I remember a manager posting the outcomes from every configuration for the running plays, but I don't remember the results or who posted it. You certainly could try to go back and review the forums to see if you can find the thread or maybe another manager kept the data. I do know that if you put a FB and HB to the same side, the HB will get the ball every time to run (well 90% of the time anyway), the blocking FB will not run at all

Also, the FB in those scenarios will be the one to receive passes occasionally (randomly) from the QB.

FB/C does not catch passes. Left and right do.

If you actually run the ball the FB is far more important than the HB. And I'd always let the HB run directly behind the FB.
