Natural Position vs. Skills

Hi there,

New to all this, just got the account this week and playing my first game this weekend.

I'm trying to understand how the Natural Positions are determined because they don't seem to make much sense when you compare them to the skills of the player.

For example, if I look at skills that I would want in a QB, I used the spreadsheet and sorted first on Passing, then on Vision, then on Agility and finally on Intelligence. The result of this indicates that one of my offensive lineman would make the best QB as his numbers were (Passing 7, Vision 7, Agility 4, Intelligence 19). My actual QB came up ranked 19th based on this sort. His numbers are 3, 6, 1 and 2.

In fact, if I sort by just Passing alone, he ranks 24th and pretty much every player on my entire defense has a better passing rating than him.

Am I missing something? This doesn't make much sense to me - why would a linebacker have a better passing skill rating than a quarterback?

So, as I'm preparing to set my initial lineup, should I be ignoring these skills and just slot the guy who's Natural Position is QB at QB or should I ignore that and slot one of the players with the better skill set at QB?

Cheers,
Glen

Welcome to GI.

Your beginning players are randomly generated and are not always best suited for the position they are listed at. Play the players at the positions they are best suited for at this time. They will gain experience at those positions and their position will switch to the new position at some point. May take a few games, may take a few dozen games, but it will change eventually.

Well, since you've been around more than 11 years, I'm betting you know what you're talking about, so thanks so much for the advice!

Every player you have or get can play any position. It just takes time to change their natural position to the new position. Natural position are as random as the initial skill sets. Changing positions requires approx. 10 games played at that position to change 1/2 star toward the new position. You can see how many stars they have toward every position from the player page and the positions tab. Be patient, have fun
