While we are waiting for the Tuesday Bowl on October 6th, we might as well revisit some of the most epic Iron Bowls ever played.

THE "THIS IS SPARTA" BOWL - Season 6
WHAT HAPPENED? Having won the Top Division and the Regional Cup already, the Sparta Nijkerk went for the Treble against the Austrian Invaders.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Not really, because the Austrian Invaders got the same treatment of the Persian Invaders in the "300" movie. On the flip side, the Sparta Nijkerk accomplished a feat that has never been repeated.

THE "CLASH OF THE TITANS" BOWL - Season 9
WHAT HAPPENED? Unanimously considered to be the two greatest teams of their era, the Badgers and the Sparta Nijkerk finally got the chance to duke it out on the biggest of stages.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Hell yeah. Neither juggernaut pulled any punch, with the Sparta Nijkerk eventually prevailing in overtime. Simply put, the stuff of legends.

THE "MIKE TYSON VS. BUSTER DOUGLAS" BOWL - Season 15
WHAT HAPPENED? Looking like one of the most dominant teams ever, the Grizzlys de Saint Laurent won their TD by a mile, stormed the RC final 45-3 (you read that right) and also went 8-0 in their AFLC Group for good measure. In other words, the Treble looked like a foregone conclusion for such an unstoppable force of nature. They just needed to make short work of the Weasels in the IB: no big deal, right?
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Absolutely. The Weasels caught the Grizzlys by surprise with an early lead and then withstood a full frontal assault until the final whistle. And when the dust settled, what was supposed to be a bloodbath had turned into an upset for the ages instead.

THE "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" BOWL - Season 18
WHAT HAPPENED? For the first time, two teams from the same Country made it all the way to the big dance. In this case, it was an All-American affair between the Orlando Gators and the Kentucky Thoroughbreds.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Not by any means. The Gators literally ate the Thoroughbreds alive.

THE "BETTER LATE THAN NEVER" BOWL - Season 19
WHAT HAPPENED? The Grizzlys de Saint Laurent had made the IB over the course of 4 consecutive seasons. Only to lose each and every one of those in some truly disheartening Buffalo Bills' fashion. Could they finally redeem themselves in their 5th attempt, this time against the Westside Wildcats?
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? You bet. In the last few minutes of the 4th quarter, the Grizzlys had their backs against the wall as another bitter defeat was looming. But somehow they managed to escape with a key interception, taking the game to overtime. And at that point, the stars finally aligned for them.

THE "GOAT" BOWL - Season 23
WHAT HAPPENED? Being consistently ranked # 1 or # 2 in the Hall of Fame forum thread, the Gainesville Athletic Club (a.k.a. Orlando Gators) and the New York Midgets felt that it was time to end the discussion once and for all.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Nah, the Midgets got beaten into a pulp and then some. And then some. And then some. It was painful to watch, trust me on that.

THE "CINDERELLA" BOWL - Season 27
WHAT HAPPENED? Some unknown Div. II team, the Scottish Raiders, unexpectedly turned into a giant slayer of sort and defeated a bunch of the most accomplished GI legends on its way to the IB, where it squared off against the New York Midgets.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Not at all. Kickoff was scheduled at 00.01 AM apparently.

THE "ITALIANS DO IT BETTER" BOWL - Season 30
WHAT HAPPENED? Exerting a dominance that had not been seen since the heyday of the Roman Empire, Italy managed to send two teams to the IB: the New York Midgets and the Tagliolo Golden Oldies.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? For sure. A dramatic defensive battle culminated in one of the craziest overtimes you'll ever see, with the Midgets falling short after throwing one or two interceptions too many.

THE "PARTY LIKE A RUSSIAN" BOWL - Season 32
WHAT HAPPENED? This time the two teams laying claim to the Iron Throne were both from Russia: the Red Dragons and the SomethingWrittenInCyrillic. And, to spice things up, the Red Dragons were also playing for the Treble.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? No doubt. After multiple changes of lead, the game went down to the wire and it was the SWIC that eventually scored the decisive TD with a couple of minutes to spare.

THE "PARTY CRASHERS" BOWL - Season 33
WHAT HAPPENED? Believe it or not, the two finalists were some team in rebuilding mode (the Weasels) and some other team that barely escaped relegation at the last gasp (the New York Midgets). How they bumbled their way to the IB is better left unexplained, since it also involved several other teams being botted for some cheating scandal. Suffice to say, it was a match so uninspiring on paper that even the devs literally forgot to schedule it. So it ended up being played on a Tuesday, go figure.
WAS IT TRULY EPIC? Yes, it was a heck of a game actually. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, the Midgets were down by 18 and did look like some uninvited guest that had no business being there. But they suddenly caught fire and were able to mount a furious comeback, eventually turning the tables on the Weasels with an Hail Mary on the last possession.

I personally enjoyed Season 15's installment. It had live commentary from David Ortiz, Belau23, MrC and Rocky - and a nice comment from a certain AudreyForever at the end.

Good read, this season should be one for the "epic" column. Should be named the legends bowl this season, good luck

No doubt.

And thanks for the recap, you Italian GI-Historian.

Indeed two legends who will battle it out tomorrow. I'm rooting for you, Audrey. Would be a huge success after you just managed to stay in the Top Division on Saturday.

Totally forgot about that IB. It was suitably epic indeed: you were a massive underdog, while Jean Marc looked like a man on a mission. I'll add it to my list then.

There was nothing legendary about the performance of my team this season. Quite the opposite actually. But I still have the chance to redeem myself, so we'll see how it goes. Meanwhile I'll add this IB too to my list for good measure: who knows, maybe it will turn out to be better than advertised.

Where have you gone by the way? The IB used to be your second home in the good old days.

Rebuilding, actually tried to relegate this season and I couldn't even get that done. At least I made money for the season, so heading in the right direction. I will enjoy watching the real legends tomorrow and work on getting my squad back in shape....I will get the notepad out
