When I played football in high school, we had a defensive formation we used sparingly that didn't use CBs. We used it only when we were almost absolutely sure they would run up the middle (short yardage and goal line situations). On the off chance that the offense decided to pass, the OLB's needed to drop back into coverage and the DE's dropped back to cover the flats.
I'm not going to say it was an effective defense, and again, it was used sparingly, but to say that a defense without CB's is unrealistic is untrue.
The limitations of this game require that a formation (offense or defense) be used through out the entire game. While this is unrealistic, I do think it's understandable since it would be difficult to plan for every situation in every possible game, and then require the managers to make plans the same way.
Can this game be improved? Absolutely, there's no doubt there. I don't think anybody, Admins included, would say otherwise.
Will it be improved? Probably not. While there may be a few tweaks here or there, they will most likely be cosmetic in nature as they have been in the past.
Does that make the game unplayable? No. Some of us have been playing a very long time. I don't see myself giving up on the game anytime soon. I accept the game for what it is and have tried to learn how to play it based on what it can do and not what I think it should do.

I agree, and if some managers win often and others don't, it means that in these conditions, the same for everyone, they are better managers. I think we should take an example from these gentlemen

None of what you said is actual football strategies. Which is the entire point of this thread. Your statement further proves my point. Sure there are "grid-iron strategies", but they aren't football strategies. Your strategy is basically manipulating the code of the engine, and NOT related to football.

Combine this with the ramped up homefield advantage and you now have a disaster of a game engine. It has now become nearly impossible to even win at the home of mediocre teams.

If I would want that actual football strategy, I wouldn't play GI. This is a manager game with flaws, but it gained my long term interest. I'm not opposed to improving the game, of course, but I'm realistic in that it probably won't happen. The game can be frustrating, but it's fun enough for me to keep playing.

btw: Look at Central Europe, Home Field Advantage is totally fine nowadays. There were dark times, no doubt, for me the darkest times in the game. But they fixed it, over time. I don't follow other leagues, but the Engine is the same and Central Europe shows a workable, halfway realistic HFA. I mean, it's 3 points in real Football, it's not like it's an level playfield in real life.

I never said "the game sucks". Schmert is correctly pointing out that many of you have completely missed the point of this thread.

In fact I said:

For the record, I want to say that I enjoy playing this game. This is why I care about improving areas of the game that are negative. Many areas can be fixed with attention to the game engine and the way the algorithm behaves. I have been playing this game for 9 years. It is frustrating to continually see its lack of progress combined with the lack of support by the developers/owners/admins of the game.

Honestly, lately the behavior of the admins and the "ultimate supporter" fiasco have put me in a bit of a foul mood with G-I. Suddenly, I am reminded of lots of things in this game that are really inexcusable for why they have not been fixed for so long.

There is a big difference between saying a "game sucks" versus pointing out the failures of the game, in hopes that it someday improves those areas.

I wish people would stop making excuses for the lack of development of this game.
