Problem is - we have no cake. The game might catch some new players (I know at least 10 or 15 that have tried it) but they just loose interest when they see that there is no development.

The cool thing about a game like this is to be able to be competitive while tweaking through the minor changes and nuances of the game. But this game is monotone.

If you ask the 300 or so players left how many times they have analyzed their opponent and tweaked their tactics more or less all will say that they set the tactics as last time and just see if the opponent is passing or running. That is literally 20 clicks.

If details mattered and there was more clarity into the game engine, it could be more interesting.

My hopes have been crushed many times in this game....

I know personally the only reason I found this game was there were no American Football Manager games on the app store that I really liked much. So only then I went to the Web and found it. Could it be possible that it could be expanded just from the browser to the app store whether it be google play games or the apple store? I can send referral links to friends to keep this game intact for a tiny bit. Thanks again for making this. It is by far my favorite American Football Manger game out there. Good luck to you guys!

Even if this game was constantly updated, tactically challenging and full of bells and whistles, it is still beyond salvation as long as it persists with its current structure that forces newly signed managers to go through literal years of monotony before they finally stumble into some meaningful competition in their league. And I mean LITERAL years: a brand new team in Central Europe will start from Div. VI and might have to make it all the way to Div. III before things finally get more lively. It goes without saying that 99% of people will die of boredom and will quit way before that. In other words, as the old players like myself inevitably phase out, GI is simply unable to attract new players that can replace those and this is a death sentence if you ask me.

It was not like that when I started. Back then, the lowest division in Central Europe (Div. V) was a pretty serious affair with plenty of competition and excitement from the get-go. It took me 2 seasons to get promoted and I narrowly made it on point differential at the end, go figure. Then Div. IV presented me with another set of epic battles and so forth. This is what got me hooked and gave me the motivation to keep playing and climbing the ladder.

The solution is perfectly obvious to me: GI needs to be dramatically re-scaled by getting rid of the various Regions, which are nonsensical at this point with their huge populations of Bots. Just create a single World Group (that goes as deep as Div. IV) and put all of the 300 active managers there. Make a single Top Division, which will replace the AFLC because this is where the 10 best teams of the world will be playing. And a single Cup, with every round that will finally become a meaningful duel between two human managers in lieu of some silly Bot-stomping. And then, at the end of the season, the TD winner will face the Cup winner in the Iron Bowl.

GI is simple enough to attract plenty of casual players, since you do not need to possess any in-depth knowledge of football or any financial skill to succeed. And despite its countless flaws, it can still be fun if you get involved in a competitive league with other active managers. The above solution does not require the devs to come up with a new engine or some other pipe dream that is clearly not going to happen at this point. They could simply get it done with their existing tools if they wanted to.

You do not have to tell me that the devs are not even reading this, they do not care, nothing is ever going to change, ahahhahhhahhahahh and so forth. I am well aware of this already, having been in this game since the dawn of time. But what can you do, the fact of the matter is that I had a great deal of fun with GI in the good old days and thus it pains me to see it now in its current shape and form.

This is exactly right!

New players have to slog through Div V, IV, and even some Div III's with almost no human games. That is at least a year of boring games against bots. Even if you get into a league with 1 other human team, only 1 of you can promote. Therefore your misery in the lower bot leagues is prolonged. Even Div II in North America has become a bot wasteland with 1/3 of the teams being bots. I can remember the days when Div II was full of human teams and Div III even had highly competitive leagues filled with human managers.

A lack of human managers has also lead to the transfer market dying and talented players becoming hard to find. So when new teams finally promote up to D.II or D.I, they have significantly weaker teams than the established managers. Developing youth is a great strategy, but it doesn't work when you only get 1-2 youth players a season that are worth keeping!

Like Hillbillee said a few posts ago, I find myself spending significantly less time on this game than I used to. It has almost become an afterthought because its just not entertaining like it used to be.

This is a great idea! You could also just get rid of quite a bit of bot teams and have
minimal divisions. That way, when someone new comes along they are instantly put into a team with hopefully, some good competition.

I like the cup idea as well. It is very simple like you said and it doesn't involve much game change. There is already the foundation in the code for the one giant cup with the regional cups. It might save some lines of code getting rid of a few lines of code. It would as you say also spark in some competition as there is a chance the worst human team there could get on the biggest stage in grid-iron.

We could also get rid of the bot teams way of being just a bot team and explicitly saying they're bot teams and make them a lot harder. to play against and equal them to human strength. So that way it is practically a normal team with competition.

It sucks that even though the devs read these they don't change much about the game. Hopefully we can get this game back up. We can use referral links to people as well as the devs hopefully changing something about this game to make it more interesting and harder.

-Good luck to you all!

Several great points made in these posts - The question that everyone wants the answer to is will any action be taken? Unless some action is taken, from the ideas raised here or from any other discussions, the game will limp along to it's ultimate death.

The younger generations will not put the time in to bring a team through the bot leagues. So the game has to be freshened up.

Otherwise the 300 players will continue to diminish.
