Round 8 is all about the top. The new leaders host the fallen former leaders in the biggest game of the season so far, while the teams behind try to keep pace.

Athens Hammers n' Sickles vs Klek Ravens

A big game, but Klek arrive weakened. They have sold most of their defence, including two useful linebackers and a safety, and even let go of their star receiver Tešić. Their attack is still strong through Cvetković, Heiseler and de Grahl, but their defence is now very thin, with only two or three real players and a lot of youngsters filling in. Against Athens, who pass well through Cresti or Guyader to Tischbein and Comesaña, that weak Klek secondary looks like an easy target. Klek can still score, but they will give up a lot too.
Prediction: Athens to win at home, taking advantage of Klek's gutted defence. A high-scoring game, but Klek no longer have the defence to keep up.

Dame Green vs Kamena Gora Bears

A bot against the league's weakest real team. Kamena Gora are 0-7 and already as good as down, but even they should have enough to beat a bot, with Deák running the ball. For once Kamena Gora are the stronger side on the field.
Prediction: Kamena Gora win, a rare and small comfort in a lost season.

Sofia Bears vs Krajišnici

Krajišnici play a bot away from home, an easy week after thrashing Larissa. Whatever they do, they will win comfortably. A free points before the hard games return.
Prediction: comfortable Krajišnici win. The only question is by how much.

Constantza Ravens vs Larissa Green

The match of the round, and maybe the season. The new leaders Constantza host Larissa, who have fallen apart with two straight defeats. A direct meeting between a team on the rise and a team in free-fall. Constantza, under the best manager in the league, keep finding ways to win, while Larissa badly need to stop the slide or their title hopes are over. If Larissa rediscover their long passing through Lončarević and Geisler, they can trouble anyone. But Constantza are in better form and play at home.
Prediction: Constantza to win and move clear at the top, unless Larissa finally get their attack working again.

Trabzonspor vs Cluj-Napoca Red Caps

Two sides going in different directions. Cluj run everything through Stoica and are still chasing the upper half, while Trabzonspor are safe but limited. Cluj have the better team and the stronger runner, and should win against a weak Trabzonspor defence.
Prediction: Cluj win, their running game too much for Trabzonspor.

The big picture

Everything points to Constantza vs Larissa. If Constantza win, they take a big step toward the title and Larissa's slide becomes a collapse. If Larissa win, the race tightens again and the Greeks are back in it. Krajišnici get an easy week against a bot and will be watching closely, knowing a Constantza win suits a wide-open finish. The other story is Klek, who have sold off much of their team, including their defence and their star receiver, a strange move for a side that started the season fighting at the top. By Sunday night the title picture will be clearer, but with four or five teams still in it, this season refuses to settle.

GAME WEEK 8 — FULL ROUND REVIEW

Athens Hammers n’ Sickles 28 : 14 Klek Ravens

Klek arrived weakened after selling off much of their defence and their star receiver Tešić, and Athens took advantage, winning comfortably 28-14. Guyader was back in the lineup and threw for 478 yards and four touchdowns, with Comesaña catching three of them (204 yards). Klek could still move the ball through Cvetković to Heiseler and de Grahl, but the numbers tell the story of a team that cut itself apart: Cvetković completed only 27% of his passes and threw four interceptions. Without their defence and without Tešić, Klek had no answer. Athens climb, Klek keep sliding.

Dame Green 3 : 77 Kamena Gora Bears

For once Kamena Gora were the stronger side, against a bot, and they took their rare chance, running all over them 77-3. Deák had a huge day with 507 yards and several touchdowns, and even quarterback Tasker ran in a 79-yard score. A small comfort in an otherwise lost season.

Sofia Bears 0 : 131 Krajišnici

Krajišnici crushed the bot 131-0 away from home, the biggest win of the season and a clean sheet. Mića Čolak was simply absurd: 729 yards on the ground and nineteen touchdowns in a single game. The only question was the margin, and 131 answered it.

Constantza Ravens 34 : 55 Larissa Green

The big surprise of the round, and against the prediction. We tipped Constantza to win at home and pull clear at the top. Instead Larissa, who had lost two in a row and looked finished, came to the leaders and won 55-34. The whole game was one man: Juel Geisler caught 24 passes for 607 yards and eight touchdowns, every single one of Lončarević’s completions went to him. Constantza fought back through Stângă and Neamtiu, but they could not live with Geisler’s afternoon. Larissa are back from the dead, and the title race is wide open again.

Trabzonspor 21 : 33 Cluj-Napoca Red Caps

Cluj had the better team and the stronger runner in Stoica, who ran for 457 yards and four touchdowns, and beat a limited Trabzonspor 33-21. A routine win that keeps Cluj in the chase for the upper half.

The big picture after Round 8

The title race refuses to settle. Larissa’s win at Constantza is the story: a team that looked finished a week ago has beaten the leaders away from home, carried by one unstoppable afternoon from Geisler, and is right back in the fight. Constantza have been pegged back, Krajišnici keep winning and now have a monstrous points difference after the 131-0, Athens quietly climb, and Klek are falling away fast after selling their own team. With several sides still able to take it, this is the most open season in memory, and every week reshuffles the top. The run-in is going to be tense.
