Hi The British GI community.

I have been extremely tardy in thanking everyone for voting for me and for the congratulations in this tread and others.

I will be doing my best to win obviously and now with two wins feeling a little more confident, even though the match against Romania was a little close and Cory threw three picks in the middle half of the game the players in the end pulled through and I have confidence in them.

I have never been one for the message boards but I will try to keep an eye on them to answer any questions you might have.

Good luck for the rest of the season, up the Brits!!

Not that KR is a hugely important position in the grand scheme of things, why is a 13k KR playing for the UKNT? May seem like a bit of a hypothetical based on the manager and the team that person plays for, but still...

Seems to be plenty of Seahawks players in the team, which based on salaries you have to assume are justified rather than self-gratification, but the KR seems to be the latter

As far as I can tell there is a shortage of 5 star KR in who are British. This is probably due to managers choosing to turn top young talent into more high profile positions.

My choice of KR for the NT was based talent and rating (yards gained in the current season) Mark Gilbert may only have a salary of 13K but he was the highest rated KR in the top team in the top division in which British teams exist. Salary is not everything and a quick check of the stats shows me that he is rated joint first of in the top ten World cup teams so far. The only KRs to rival him are the two Dutch players, one of whom gets paid less than Mark.

I hope this helps ease your concerns and if you have any further thoughts please post them and I will reply as soon as I can. You can also message me if openly discussing tactics may be a disadvantage to the British team.

Regards

Grant Hooper (5* RB on the UKNT, who doesn't play in the league where British people play so obviously falls outside the criteria you mentioned) is also a KR as far as I can remember (although can't remember his stats); thought he would have got the gig, but like I said before it doesn't really matter. I'm pretty sure kick return distance is just a random roll between X and Y yards where skills may or may not actually play a role in the outcome.

Grant Hooper is indeed a 5* Running back and is currently my RB of choice to play in the NT. He does play as KR as you state and does so in his league. Despite the fact that grant plays in two rushing positions his overall yards gained is not as great as Mark's nor is his average yards per carry even when rushing performance is deducted from return performance. Overall Mark is a 20% to 25% better KR than Grant. Ultimately the extra performance turns into better field positions and irrespective of how small the margin, as NT coach I am surely obliged to give the British team the best chance.

I welcome any observations that British coaches may have.

Yes, quite surprising and kick returns, as well as punt returns are somewhat random anyway. This makes comparing stats somewhat irrelevant. As long as you have a full bpos player returning and reasonable catching carrying skills, you are going to be in the top bracket for rolls, then it 's just a matter of getting better rolls to boost your average
