I am amazed at all the fans from other countries, aside of North America, that enjoy football and really know the game.

I guess for me living in the U.S. I take it for granted and assume that outside countries don't know about this game. Was it NFL Europe that brought the game to you or was it something else?

I'd love to hear how you first learned and came across this great game and who your favorite team is.

Hello dear Steelers fan, as far as i am concerned in France we have NFL games every week on a private channel (Canal+), we use to have some college games (generally the ESPN big game of the week), now on public channels we have a magazine of 26 minutes i think it's NFL Gameday and they broadcast conference finals and the Superbowl. We used to have in Europe as stated before the defunct NFL Europe and then NFL Europa that allowed some of the most hardworkers and talentuous foreigners to show their ability to the NFL world, however, it was frequently seen with caution by European members of American Football community as the majority of the players were US players who didn't have enough PT in the NFL and it was not considered as an European league. That's the first point.

Second point i am a big Steelers fan (i was a big fan of The Bus) and in college football i love to watch Hawai'i games just for their big guns on Offense. I am currently seeing collegiate games of DII/DIII (NSIC, MIAA, ODAC...) on PennAtlantic network for free, today i'll watch an Empire 8 game.

Third and not the less important i am not only a fan of football i am also an actor (i am a local referee for my club).

For more infos on International American Football just log on http://www.ifaf.info (International Federation of American Football), the 1st ever Junior Tackle Football World Cup will be held in Canton,OH in 2009 (June, i think).

Best regards, we have same passion but not necessarily same approach.

Cheers from France.

If memory serves, the UK started showing NFL back in 1982, which was when I started supporting the Redskins - and haven't stopped since

Back then it involved a 1-2 hour show of highlights at the weekend showing the results of the games.. from the week before! Most of the time you'd looked up the results in the paper or seen them on Teletext (a text based news service on your TV) on Monday morning - before going off to school for me.
We've come a long way since then and now with Sky and Channel 5 we get 5 games on a Sunday, the Monday night game, all mid-week games, NFL Access every day, Livewire, America's Game and this year we even got some pre-season action. Heady times for us with TV coverage.. oh and the upcoming Saints/Chargers game at Wembley, following last years UK game.
In fact you'll probably find most fans outside the USA are rabid fanatics of their teams/the game as all of you are... for most of us it's required a lot of effort over the years to keep up with the game/team, so we're deeply invested Last edited on 2008-10-11 at 19:49

Apparently, I watched the 85 Bears in the Super Bowl...when I was 3. But I don't remember it, just recall watching the game late night at night in the late 80s/early 90s.
NFL Europe was not very good. I barely went to or watched games. I've since played with, and against people who were in NFL Europe. The NFL and NCAA is what we want!
Watching Texas - Oklahoma right now, and I'm going to Lincoln next year to watch the Huskers.

I discovered American Football about 10 years ago by buying a Madden football game. I liked it so much and by then NFL Europe started so I was watching the Amsterdam Admirals. Later I began playing it myself en untill today I still do. I also watch as much games as I can on NASN.

Great stories!!!!!! Keep them coming.

I'm sure I'm older than most of you (42 years old) and I have a football background as my father coached high school football as did two uncles (different schools) so I grew up with it.
I also started coaching, after my playing days were over, coaching my son in the peewee levels and stuck with coaching other kids after my boy went on to high school.
As I'm sure you can tell, I'm a diehard Steelers fan and I love football at every level and leagues.

I love seeing interest in this great sport from people all around the world.

Hi,

I'm from germany and playing football for 13 years as a WR and SS now. I'd see football first at the university and started there.

We have 200 tackle teams organized into 5 divisions, 100 youth and 50 flag teams all over germany. In tv we also have NASN to watch NFL and College.

I really liked NFL Europa (like it was called in the last couple of seasons ), but I knew the game before NFL Europa started.

Btw: I was had a seasonticket for The Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europa.
