alright. i take that part of you saying that this is your way of being overly cinfident and it being your kind of trash talk as kinda a signal that you wanna end this discussion. and i am all for that.

note that i never said that america sucked at anything! this is not me and it never will be. i simply took offence from you hating on all other countries.
it is good that you are a patriot. it really is. every country needs those. it's just that part of being a patriot is having respect for other countries as well.

as for the medal count: excuse me if that means nothing to me. medal count is not a "per head kinda thing". you got 300 million people!!! you better have more medals than austria for instance. and still if we took all your medals, devide them by the amount of your country's people, we'd get a significantly smaller number than if we took austria's medals from this years olympic games for instance and devided that number by the amout of our people.
but that's not really important..

and im sorry i don't want your "medal for participation".
What reason for trash talk could you possibly have at this point???? the world cup is over!!!! at this point it's just making people angry and offending them by saying your team is better than all of ours combined. just think of it that way.. how would you, as a proud american feel if people (seriously, not jokingly) talk about your country and its people like it's the world worst scum?

anyways... i suggest we do what the mod said, and keep it on topic from now on... we can continue discussing this matter per pm if you feel like it. i'm personally done with it if you please

uhmm... sorry to burst your bubble iman but unlike your be-loved kobe steve nash is a role model for all. back to back m.v.p's recently directed a film about terry fox and hasn't cheated on his wife and gotten arrested (as far as I know)

Also I think Nascar is basically americans so you've got that one.

Basketball and Football are the ones you own

Maybe Baseball but cant be sure

Used to be the best at tennis, not anymore.

Your top 3 in hockey but that doesnt count for anything because were world champs

I am all for a good trash talking thread when it is kept respectful, cheerful and in good spirit. Repeating the same arrogant behaviour towards every other nation in the world is not any of that. It is childish, rude and selfish.

I must support Mark on this case, because ever since the national team have been introduced, then your comments, iMan24, has developed into the sad part of "trash" talking. Almost everywhere you post you seem to feel that you have to post something about American rules, everybody else suck. To me you have just managed to put you into a box of people that others don't enjoy being around.

As for you whole statement of America rules every other sport than soccer just shows once again you ignorance. Here are a few examples of big sports that you don't and do "rule".

Biggest sports in world:

1) Football: 3.3-3.5 billion fans (Europe, Africa, Asia, Americas, etc.)
2) Cricket: 2-3 billion fans (India, UK, Pakistan, Asia, Australia, etc.)
3) Field hockey: 2-2.2 billion fans (Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia)
4) Tennis: Around 1 billion fans (Europe, Americas, Asia)
5) Volleyball: Around 900 million fans (Asia, Europe, Americas, Australia)
6) Table tennis: Around 900 million fans (Asia, Europe, Africa, Americas)
7) Baseball: Around 500 million fans (US, Japan, Cuba, Dominican Republic)
8) Golf: Around 400 million fans (US, Canada, Europe)
9) Gridiron (American football): 390-410 million fans (US mainly)
10) Basketball: Not more than 400 million fans (US, Canada mainly)

1) Let's ignore this one for this comparision.
2) Anybody ever heard of an American cricket player? Or team?
3) A sport where the best Olympic results for the US team is bronze in 1932 and bronze in 1984. Both times in Los Angeles.
4) The first American on the ATP is 7th and the list is headed by Spaniard followed by a Swiss, a player from Serbia & Montenegro, an Englishman, a Swede and a Czech, and on the WTA is lead by a Dane (a country with less than 6 million people!).
5) Here is a sport the Americans are good at, but not dominant if you look over the years of the Olympic medals. Mainly the men are doing well, but the women are not far behind.
6) Managed to find winners since 1988 and not a single American among them. To be fair, I don't thing I have ever heard about an American table tennis player.
7) Now here is a sport that the Americans dominate! Or do they? The most winning team in the Olympic is Cuba (3 gold, 2 silver) followed the US (1 gold, 2 bronze) and South Korea (1 gold, 1 bronze).
8) The latest Ryder Cup was won by Europe. Enough said.
9) American football is by far dominated by the country that invented it. no doubt about it.
10) Another game dominated by the Americans without doubt.

So as you can see the dominance isn't as big as the ego would like it to be.

My advice is to you, is to tone down the arrogance and ignorance, and show a little respect to other people around the world.

So, I did a search for your list there, and find it referenced in many places, but none of them cite any original source. So, I think someone just pulled those numbers out of their butt. Those numbers are ridiculous. I don't doubt that soccer is #1 and cricket is #2 (I actually wrote a paper on cricket about 8-9 years ago), but I kinda doubt the placements after that...someone just made that crap up.

Do you realize 3.3-3.5 Billion is half of the world's population. Really? Half of the people in the world are soccer fans? I can tell you that's not true just by telling you that (a little over) half of the world's population doesn't have a y chromosome. So that's basically saying that every man alive is a soccer fan. And for every man that isn't, there's a woman that is. And this is including infants. Ridiculous!

You are absolutely right that there is no official number. I just grabbed a list from the following site:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_most_popular_sport_in_the_world

The list is most likely scaled. And as such the the list is still a decent indication, but not specifically accurate. And it still show quite a few very big sports, that the American doesn't dominate, yet according to a certain individual, they should.

Eh, I don't care about the actual discussion. Just the list. I think basketball would have to be higher now...especially since Yao popularized it in China. It'd probably be 3rd or 4th on that list. (Is field hockey actually popular or is it just like everything else on the list where they're assigning a big number of fans because Asia has a lot of people living there?) American Football is more popular than bball in the US, but it wouldn't be ahead of basketball worldwide.

Field Hockey is actually a very popular sport, but often played in slightly different versions. In Sweden they call it Bandy and it is very big in the country.
