Future NT players in order of wages:

Jordan Lynch - DL +

James McKee - RB *

+ Scouted
* NT ready

Great to see Lynch getting some love, he is all to often kept in Johnstone's Shadow but i see them as a great Duo long term...

as for James McKee... a running back? in this game? and one of mine on top of that!! that was something I never expected!! but guess I would have hoped for it if i had thought about it lol

Lynch will probably need another year of training, unless a lot of defensive linemen decide to retire in the next few weeks.

James McKee may even start if the next UK coach likes him. Probably won't be my decision to make though.

Assuming 4.5/5* Talent what level of skill would you imagine is needed for a NT player?

As a rule of thumb, 14 or more in primary stats for gunners and kick returners, 16+ for linemen and running backs, 18+ for linebackers, cornerbacks, safeties and tight ends, rising up to 19 or 20 for kickers, wide receivers and quarterbacks, and it would usually be expected for secondary stats and physicals to be pretty good too.

Doubt I'll train any of my guys up to that level any time soon, if ever. Not sure that you can have a balanced team with players on such high wages that isn't depending on cup runs for survival. Must make NT managing interesting though to see the difference that having a team of fully developed players makes.

A top level side should be able to sustain a team worth about $1.2 million in wages, which usually gives a little bit of wiggle space for indulging a super talent or two.

Based on my forecast for next year with salary costs of around $850k I will lose around $600k on the season. This is based on remaining competitive in the division. It also assumes getting knocked out in the first round of the cup which is hopefully pessimistic, although my cup form has been at best patchy since joining the game.

At some point i am going to have to start spending more on salary costs but i'm not sure I could sustain $1.2m (I'd lose around $7m making the same assumption for next year). However it's clear that talent alone is not going to get me into the top division.

Our teams seem to be built along similar lines, with an emphasis on talent rather than skills at this point. Is $1.2m where you see the ceiling for your salaries? My concern is overreaching an then having to break up my team which has taken a lot of time to assemble.

Gate receipts from league games should give a stable $18 million yearly to the bank account, while prize money, friendlies and sponsorship should cover maintenance. Discarding cup money, there should be enough to sustain a squad in the region of 900K pretty comfortably. And cup money can get quite substantial if you play at home or against teams with big stadiums.

I have been lucky enough to be able to save a lot of money on my way up the leagues, so if my squad does get too expensive I have at least a couple of seasons to balance the books before I need to worry.

I have added two Tight Ends, Calum Spencer and Harrison Madden to the players I would say could probably get by in the National team. Madden's skills look especially well-rounded. Spencer's skills are a little bit more 'diverse', as he has 15 passing and 17 carrying to his repertoire, but he might come in handy given that one of our reserve TEs is retiring next week, and we could do with some more cover in that area.

This is just something for the next NT manager to consider of course.

Update on my possible future NT players - as of Feb 4th 2013

Ryan Randall: 20 years, Kick returner BPOS 5*, Wide Receiver BPOS 3.5*
Speed 18 (Capped), Strength 12 (capped), Stamina 10, Catching 7, Agility 5, Footwork 3, Carrying 5, consistency 14.

Plan for now: Agility to 10, then catching to 10, then footwork and carrying to 10. Then catching and agility to 15.

Mark Wood: 23 years, O Line. BPOS 5*.
Strength 17 (Capped), Speed 13 (capped), stamina 12, agility 6, blocking 9, footwork 9, consistency 10.

Plan for now: blocking and footwork to 10, then agility to 10, then blocking/footwork to 15.

David Metcalfe: 21 years, O Line BPOS 5*, DLine BPOS 2.5*
Strength 17 (uncapped), speed 12 (capped), stamina 9, agility 4, blocking 9, tackling 6, footwork 4, consistency 20.

Cap strength, raise D Line BPOS. Stamina to 10, footwork to 8 and then train blocking/tackling/agility together.

Oliver Findlay: 18 years, 4.5* Talent (3* BPOS) Outside Linebacker.

Speed 17 (capped), Strength 18 (capped), Stamina 6, agility 2, tackling 5, vision 7, position 3, consistency 4.

Plan for now. Stamina to 10, tackling to 7, positioning until 7, agility to 7. Tackling to 10, positioning/vision to 10 and keep going.

If there any players here that are definite no's, then tell me and I will remove from this list and only concentrate on the possibles.

Would you consider 4* Talent players at all?
