They'll need it. They wont be playing the 4th place division teams next season. And they get AFC West as their whole division from AFC.

Opinions on Julius Thomas?

Getting rid of Albert?

Restoring the greatness of this thread?

Albert was one of the vets we spoke about that had a huge contact but small dead money if cut. The writing was on the wall long ago.

Thomas I think is a good smart addition. They are in desperate need of a TE. If only Thomas can regain his Broncos form. And by acquiring him half way through a contact. You dodge half the gamble on said player.

Half of what he was worth was because of Peyton. He showed a lot of injuries and missed opportunities in JAX's offense. I can't think he'll be much better with another sub-par QB.

But it is a smart move financially by Dolphins. He is better than anything on the roster currently at the TE position.

This year he is worth $7.1M with $3.0M in dead money. Next year he is worth $8.6M with zero dead money. So he basicly has a one year trial @ 7 mil and the Dolphins can get out next year free of charge if they like.

$7M is worth an attempted gamble at a potential pro-bowl caliber player. Especially when that roster position is filled with 3rd stringers currently.

I agree, but I also agree with Sverngold. His calibre of play will be directly related to the calibre of QB play. He was never the best of blocking TEs, but that's not why he was drafted either.

I'm shocked you don't have Olsen on that list, he's one of the best. Graham is not on your list, neither is Miller, Walker, Celek or Reed (not a great blocker, but a cover nightmare). Often injured Thomas would be a great pick up. These are just a few. Tampa has 2 great tight ends and they are just across the state, maybe they could lure one of them.

Olsen cant block to save his life. Graham thinks that "block" is a basketball stat.
Zach Miller can run and catch but is still raw. He isnt a good blocker.

Delanie Walker is the only very good all around tight end you mentioned.
It is probably the toughest position to find a really complete player. There arent many. To suggest Dolphins MUST find a complete tight end to be more competitive is ... I dont know how to put it in words.

I do feel good about the pick up, hopefully he can stay healthy. Great move for the Dolphins, one I was thinking aobut at the end of last season for them to improve

the dolphins need to have a defensive heavy draft in order to make it back to the postseason. will be important to acquire a pair of guards and maybe a kenny stlls replacement in free agency. a linebacker and a defensive end in free agency would help as well. i say they go defensive end in round one of the draft, linebacker in round 2, and corner in round 3.
