That's what Will Snyder wants you to think. I've seen HBO movies where the word was used as an offensive derogatory term. HBO movies are super accurate. 200 outraged SJWs demand social justice!!!

a poll in 2002 commissioned to Sports Illustrated found that 75% of the Native Americans polled had no objection about the name of the Redskins

There are Native American high schools which literally chose the Redskins as their name and logo. It's seen as something that generates pride and respect. Anyone getting offended over it simply misunderstands the meaning and intent. Teams don't name themselves to berate themselves.

If the Washington Redskins have an offensive name, which they dont by the way its people who are being politically correct and jumping on the i have nothing to do bandwagon, then what about the other NFL teams below?

Patriots, Is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors following their own beliefs over reason or doubt, this could be insulting to some people, like foreign nations etc?.

Chiefs is a term for an Indian leader, if you are following the Redskins being derogatory then surely is this one not as well?

Raiders are a group of pirates who murdered and killed in the name of country and religion, are the raiders not an offensive team name when you look at the name of this team?

Cowboys murdered and killed Indians and are attributed to many tribal massicres, to indian people cowboys the name could be seen as upsetting and insulting

Vikings are any of the Scandinavian seafaring pirates and traders who raided and settled in many parts of NW Europe in the 8th–11th centuries, they raided and murdered and conquered, vikings could be seen as being aggressive and to some insulting?

Saints this could be seen by athiests as insulting who neither believe in god or a creator. A person acknowledged as holy or virtuous and regarded in Christian faith as being in heaven after death, sometimes taking his own life to become a saint, or other times offering their lives to become a saint, in the hope god will embrace them.

Buccaneers. Preys on Spanish ships and settlements especially in 17th century West Indies, classed as a pirate, known as an unscrupulous adventurer especially in politics or business, Buccaneers killed and raided for land, territory and possessions.

So a name is name, and The Washington Redskins is a name that the team chose and that the native Indians have taken pride and respect in being remembered and having a team named after them. The ones who have a problem with this name, are the politicians who are after the limelight, so as to be noticed. These politicians think this is good way to get noticed to get them more publicity.

Yup

We will know a whole lot more about the makeup of this team after the saints game. Two really nice performances and one real stinker. But so far there has been something to get a little excited about. But these are the skins after all, these guys have shown the ability to screw up a cheese sandwich then charge you $10 for it.

Is the name offensive? Yeah it's pretty bad and it makes them a easy scapegoat for the SJW crowd. The thing is, the minute the name is changed I probably just become a Panthers fan as I live in NC. Do I expect that anytime soon, probably not.

Man this was such a great franchise back in the day. I'm 48 so my memories date from the George Allen era onward, those those memories are fuzzy, though thanks to YouTube those memories are are there. The NFL films yearbook films from 1971-76 are all there, all with classic John Facenda narration, well except for '71 "Three Cheers for the Redskins" which is narrated by Frosty the Snowman himself Burl Ives. ALSO the 1969 season was there which was the Lombardi year but I think that got yanked.

Jack Parser was the first coach I really remember, he only lasted three seasons and finished an aggregate .500 going 8-8,10-6 then thanks to Rigging sitting out a season in a contract dispute 6-10 which got Pardee run. That middle team, 1979, is the team that made me a die-hard. Rigging at his peak, Theismann killing it, good defense, and Mark Mosley in all his permed hair glory. It also is the team that in the end taught me a hard lesson. Last game of the year in Dallas, going into the day it seemed this wouldnt have dire implications as the skins were assured a playoff birth win or lose....just long as the Bears didn't win by more than 35. Well in the early games the Bears rolled the Cardinals 42-6 so this became a death match for both as Dallas had to win no matter what. Skins jump out real fast 17-0. Dallas comes back to lead 21-17 going to the 4th. Skins explode for 17, capped by Riggins busting loose on a 67yd run. 4 minutes left, Summerall and Brookshire talking about the fact the skins would have home field throughout the playoffs. There was just one little problem, and his name was Roger Staubach. Texas stadium was half empty but they roll down and score with 2:20 left, 34-28. Skins have a 3rd and about a foot, so what do you think they do? Theismann sneak? Riggo up the gut? Nope Riggo on a slow developing sweep to the right, two yard loss. Dallas gets it back and down they come using the shotgun the whole way (they were the only team who ran it back then). They get to the 8, Staubach goes under center, one step and a perfect lob to Tony Hill for the score. Skins got the ball back with about :38 or so and on the last play complete a pass just as the clock expires with the skins desperately calling time to give Mosley a shot at about a 60 yarder, refs converge, game over, cried my eyes out.

The name offends only those who don't know its meaning. I'm not a Redskins fan, but believe they are a dangerous team right now. At this moment before their game with the high-powered Saints offense, the Redskins have the #1 Defense in the NFL...both in yards and points allowed. This isn't a bottom of the barrel defense we're talking about here.

At the same time, I have Alvin Kamara (and Melvin Gordon) on my full PPR fantasy football team, and hope the Redskins #1 Defense lets up just a bit tonight so my team can remain undefeated on the season.

well that was a curb stomping. But I don't think anybody was stopping the saints last night. They worship Brees in New Orleans, and they worshipped Archie Manning back in the day, so it was very appropriate Brees knocked Peyton from the books in his daddies old town.

The skins however didn't have to make it easier by playing stupid. Not that they could have won, but you got to compete better than that coming off the bye week.

Alas though the boys are still in first in the NFC (L)east as the entire division is a dumpster fire. I'm not buying the Cowboys at all, Dak was great 2 seasons ago but everyone has got the book on him now and Zeke can't do it on his own. The eagles are finding its a lot harder being the hunted than the hunter, classic post superb owl letdown season, but you have to figure they get it together. And the giants are....the giants, complete garbage. So I figure nine wins takes this division, so the skins got just as good of a chance as any.

Definitely agree on the bye week performance. 2 weeks to study the Saints and they play like that???

Very disappointed indeed they are always such a letdown when they are one of the main games of the week.
