...is it not possible to have a sustainable model that also provides the chance to succeed at the top? I guess it would involve double training, and consistent training of talent every season. It takes a lot of time to train a player for multiple positions, but my math suggests it is possible to do if about 50% of the starters play at double positions, but they are learning a 2nd position by playing friendly.
Continue on that, about half the players with high wages would play on 1 position, other half play at 2 positions, and there would be some other players on low wage learning the ropes. My math suggests that a player could play 1 position at about age 22, and could play 2 positons by about age 25. (assuming the team uses only the friendlies to increase BPOS of developmental players.)
Please let me know if something is wrong with my math or logic, and why it is not used at the top.

It is tough. The skills are a bigger issue than the BPOS. I mean you main wage players will be offense/defense. So CB can double as what on offense? Wr I guess but then they need to train catch as well and the longer it takes to get all the skills up the longer it will take before they are good enough just as a CB never mind a wr.

For a lot of big positions all main skills will be 16+ on all skills the manager deems relevant across the board. So you need to get to 16 at all CB skills and catching before your player is ready (and even then would be weak at this level).

There are certainly dual position players used to reduce costs but it is hard to across the board. Most of mine end up as reserves in secondary positions as I am not sold that it has not effect on the performance.

I should also point out that doing everything by the book as you are told is unlikely to net all the trophies you want unless you get some serious talent in your squad.

You will have to buck the trend somehow and do something different to beat the top teams. Feel free to try something out as it may be what you need!

This above ^^ is the only solid advice you will receive and you really should pay attention to it.

Not to make this thread about dual positions, but I only see DL/OL as real options.

I have had luck with players like Bentzen who can play almost 4 positions (he plays FB, LB and Gunner. TE is just for fun).

I have WR/CB combo, but still not good enough to be starter over my WR and TE. WR/TE works fine. But why have two TE's if you darkwing?

I have had LB/QB work, but the rule of thumb is that QB's should not have strength over 113-15, so his 18 strength might have ruined his performance as QB.

I do like to dual / triple train my players, but only for fun.

Special teamers are ALWAYS a dual skill. I see that having punt and kickoff returns going for 10-15 yards less would - in real life - be crucial, but in this "One punch and you score a TD" game, 10 yards does not do much.

Now, back to discussing how TD will end this season...

It seems pretty tough to make any predictions. Before you could always point to matches you fully expected to win.

The winner will likely be decided on away form. What matches do people expect to win away from home this season? I can't point to any right now and feel definitive that the away side will win it. I mean in II. 2 there are multiple away matches I feel like the Raiders would be heavily favourite in. That just does not seem to exist here.

This is just such a massive step up.

Oh and to Mr. I broke my space bar, Staten is absolutely looking forward to facing against your side! He still feels like he owes you something.

There have been teams that have made dual positions work - Salamanca Roadtrains won a title that way in season 21. But I've always had a suspicion that playing in two positions in the same match affects a player's performance, especially if it's offence and defence. That said, I've often trained players for similar roles in case of injury. Tight end and running back skills are relatively interchangeable for example, likewise safety and linebacker skills.

Before the new engine, cutting costs on non-essential roles, like inner linemen, running backs, and even the safety position, has enabled me to make repeated challenges for the title on a small budget. With the new engine that may be a little more difficult, but I've found a few ways of covering both the rush and pass plays without increasing the wage bill too much.

For people expecting to storm the world with a tactical masterplan, good luck to them, but a word to the wise:- The main strategical challenge is not with the game tactics but with managing player growth, and ensuring all the important roles in your team are always covered by high quality players.

Why are Nightmare listed as top of the division? The rest are alphabetical.

Yeah in some ways we are playing out a season where the majority of the decisions were made a year ago or more.

I have to predict 5 home wins tomorrow. More because it is one of the few things that is swaying my decision making process in either direction. Looking forward to it.

I believe Mr Staten will need a rest now and again so feel free to rest him against me (especially as I gave my spacebar a rest).
