4.5* v 5* BPOS

I notice most of the top teams go for pretty much all 5* BPOS over 4.5* - is there thought to be much of a difference?

Say if you had a 4.5* BPOS guy with better physicals and intangibles than a 5* guy, would you still go with the 5*?

Cheers

Hard to say.

BPOS and consistency are thought to be multiplied by the calculation of the players skills (football and physical), so BPOS and consistency are first priority. 4½ star BPOS does play poorer than a 5 BPOS (with equal skills). Likewise, a low CON player _could_ outplay a higher CON player, but it is more likely that a 15+ CON player will perform better over the season than a 5 CON player.

To put it to the extreems, a 1 CON player with 20 carrying could play with 16 to 24 carrying. If he (by my book) has 4½ BPOS, his skill would be 10% lower equal to 14 to 21 carrying (Grid-Iron only uses integers for calculation). A 5 BPOS, 1 CON player would keep the 16 to 24 range. A 20 CON player would always play with 20 (if 5 BPOS) carrying while the 4½ BPOS would play with 18 carrying.

So in my book - a 4½ CON player would have to have a higher level of skill to compensate for the penalty for not having the 5 star BPOS.

*** THIS IS UNVERIFIED INFORMATION *** (Except for the CON, which is explained in the FAQ).

Second comes the skills needed for that position. As we know very little about which skills are relevant for a position, this could be guess-work. For example, admins have said (once, many years ago) that blocking is a skill used for DL. Vision is not used for RB's and other querks exist.

Top teams have been around for a long time and have gathered up either youth pulls or bought players to fit their team. Anyone has equal chance of getting these players since the economy is much, much better in the lower divisions than in top Division.

So go scout and pick those players that in 4-7 seasons can become a great starter.
