about 25-27 players

13 offensive,13 defence, and 1 or 2 to special team

In real football it's 53 (45active and 8 inactive). I doubt we'll be seeing numbers that high though...

So they are not part of the team, coach can call them only to substitute an injured player?

They wont substitute into the game, just the squad.

For example, first choice QB gets hurt. "Substitute" QB comes on. QB from the 8 inactive players will be promoted to "Substitute".
