Full back vs half back

First of all I'm still a noob when it comes to am. football, so it might be that I don't know something. Don't be harsh on me.

How I understood from watching RL games and reading here and there most of the long runs in american football are performed by half back. Full back is running the ball mostly when only few yards are left till the 1st down. At least in my team, majority of long runs are done by full back. While that might be caused by player skils, it still looks suspicious.

I know I could analyse other than my own games, but before doing it I'd like to ask if I understood this full back vs half back difference right. The next question would be if behaviour those to positions are not switched in G-I?

At my first game FB rushed 101 and HB 222 yards.
At second game I switched players - one who was FB was set on HB and vice versa.
Again, FB rushed much less - 24 and HB 450 yards!
So, it looks that everything is OK.
Also it looks that it depends on player's skills.

Cheers for input. However it look quite different in my team. In two league games:
My halfback had 66 rushing yards in 9 attempts
My fullback had 628 rushing yards in 42 attempts

And I changed them places because I thought that my friendly the oposite positioning did not work.

well, in rl football today, the halfback runs the ball the majority of the time, and the fullback rarely ever runs, hes more of a blocker, althuogh there are some exceptions, where the fullback does get rushing yards but it is rare

It might have to do with player formations and set plays that are programmed in. If you are running a "power I" two TE's a FB and a HB that was a traditional formation that the FB used to see a fair amount of carries. My FB is getting a fair amount of yardage but he seems to be statistically better than the other FB. Now if it's not intended as something as part of a set "play" then my guess is it's the logic of the game. QB looks to hand off, logic looks for a handoff target, FB is closer to the QB than the HB FB wins. just a thought.

for the record can anyone confirm deny the positioning thing? it makes a major difference as the description and function of a fullback is a lead blocker and this dramatically changes the purpose of the position as well as pertinent skills. using a FB so far has made the HB an almost useless proposition.

It is like this in the game engine too.

But for example if you attack down the left and you have a fullback left and a halfback center the engine chooses the fullback and not the halfback since he's the one that's positioned on the left side at the start of the play.

We did check the engine because of this thread and there is a little ambiguity on who to chose if you, again for example, run the ball down the right and your fullback(s) and halfback(s) are not on that side. Until now the engine chose at random. We will tweak it today towards choosing a halfback more rather than a fullback (but only if you don't have any FB or HB on that side - if you do, the side still takes precedence).

How about an option that would allow managers to chose who carries the ball most? Like the one thats already there (pass or run)

So how do I have my FB offset to the Left, yet hand the ball to the HB for a Lead play?
