Unfortunately, the Rhinelander Panthers went BOT just before week 17. He was leading the division and had a pretty big PD lead. The Pirates were lucky enough to be playing the Panthers the week he went BOT and beat him 83-0 to bring the PD down to 95 points with one game to go. The BOT Panthers won their week 18 game 7-0, which meant the Pirates needed to beat their BOT opponent by 103 points. The final score.... 73-0.

So the BOT team wins the point differential battle by 29 points and promotes to D.III, leaving the Pirates to face 3 very hungry teams in Season 4.

The Division will look like this:

Remaining in IV.24
East Bay Pirates
Record: 17-1
Points Scored: 1073
Points Allowed: 44

Promoting from:
V.70: Dallas Huskies
Record: 18-0
Points Scored: 1104
Points Allowed: 84

V.71: Best Coast Crew
Record: 18-0
Points Scored: 1268
Points Allowed: 21

V.72: Brooklyn Barracudas
Record: 18-0
Points Scored: 975
Points Allowed: 14

This should be a very competitive division in season 4.

Well, we're about a 1/4 the way through the season and so far Div IV.24 has been everything we thought it would be.

In the human vs. human games so far, it's been anyone's game right up to the final gun.

6 - Best Coast Crew
3 - Dallas Desperados

7 - East Bay Pirates
0 - Brooklyn Barracudas

6 - Dallas Desperados
7 - Brooklyn Barracudas

7 - Best Coast Crew
0 - East Bay Pirates

TEAM ROUND UP
East Bay
Runner's up last year. Very stingy defense. Gave up their first points of the season in a 7-0 loss to Best Coast this past weekend. So far, 1-1 in HvH matchups. A loss to improving Dallas in week 9 would really hurt their chances at promotion this season.

Best Coast
Looking like the front runners at this point. Ranked #12 in the overall D.IV power rankings. Nice defense, solid offense. 2-0 in HvH matchups so far, and plays Brooklyn next week. A win will firmly entrench him as the team to beat if any of us want to promote to D.III next season.

Brooklyn
Could easily beat anyone in the division. 1-1 in HvH matchups. A win in his upcoming game against Best Coast will go a long way towards deciding if he will have a chance at promotion this season.

Dallas
Bottom of the division so far. 0-2 in HvH matchups, but had a chance to win either game. Must really come on strong to have any chance. A loss in week 9 to East Bay would put him at 0-3 against the human teams and pretty much rule out any chance at promotion this season

Power Ranking for Div IV.24
1 - Best Coast Crew
2 - Brooklyn Barracudas (-404)
3 - East Bay Pirates (-634)
4 - Dallas Desperados (-809)

Best Coast's lead could shrink considerably this week since he is playing a bot in his Cup game, while the other three teams all have human opponents.

Regional Cup this week
Best Coast vs. bot - He should win easily.

Brooklyn vs. Hickory Mustangs of NC - A D.V team, but undefeated in a league with 4 humans. Not a slam dunk, but he should win.

East Bay vs. Hondecks Colts - Another D.V team. They're 3rd in a league of 4 humans. East Bay should easily handle this game.

Dallas vs. Eau Claire Rockets - Also a D.V team. This team just got taken over by a human last week. Dallas should win this game.

We've officially hit the halfway point of the season.

Every single human vs. human game so far has been a tough low scoring game.

In the real standings (HvH), here's what it looks like so far:

3 - 0 Best Coast Crew
2 - 1 East Bay Pirates
1 - 2 Brooklyn Barracudas
0 - 3 Dallas Desperados

TEAM ROUND UP
East Bay
These guys are fighting hard, trying not to be runners-up for the second straight season. They just had a big win over Dallas to wind up the first half of the season and stay in contention. However, much like last year, the point differential battle could be the deciding factor. They are nearly 100 points back in the PD race and could end up needing help to win the division. A big game this week against Brooklyn, who beat them last week in the regional cup will go a long way toward helping position East Bay for a run at promotion.

Best Coast
Locked in as front runners at the halfway point. They have a game lead and a large point differential lead. We haven't seen a D.IV power ranking update since week 5, but Best Coast was ranked #10 at that time and look to have moved up since then. They face Dallas this week and a win will move them that much closer to locking up the division.

Brooklyn
Brooklyn will definitely need help if they're going to have a chance at winning the division. They're in a must win situation this week against East Bay, who is a game ahead of them. On the upside for Brooklyn, they beat East Bay 14-7 one week ago in a Regional Cup matchup, so they go into this game knowing they have the ability to win it.

Dallas
Dallas is on the outside looking in. 0-3 in HvH matchups. With losses by 6, 3 and 4 points, they know they're not far off. On the plus side for Dallas, the roster changes they started last season are starting to pay off, and are capable of pulling off big wins as they continue to improve. But they are looking at next season now, as this one has all but slipped away.

Week 9 Power Ranking for Div IV.24
1 - Best Coast Crew
2 - Brooklyn Barracudas (-96)
3 - East Bay Pirates (-193)
4 - Dallas Desperados (-523)

Regional Cup this week
Brooklyn and Dallas are still alive in the Regional Cup.

Brooklyn has by far the tougher opponent, playing the Tennessee Orange from the NA's Top Division. Tennessee has struggled this season in the TD and I expect Brooklyn to give them a good game, but a win against Tennessee is asking a lot. Look for Brooklyn's run to come to an end.

Dallas faces an untested D.V opponent in the Pittsburgh Maulers. Pittsburgh has played all bots in the Regional Cup, in addition, their GM has worked them to the point of exhaustion, and if they can stagger on to the field, that's about as far as they should get since the average energy level of the Maulers is about 55. Look for Dallas to advance to the round of 32.

Good Read. Hopefully I can keep the barracudas in runners up position. This weeks cup game does not look good for me. Currently down 7 points just 8 minutes into the game.

Week 10 is in the books and we're starting to see how things might play out.

All 4 human teams played each other last week.

Brooklyn handled East Bay for the second time in 11 days, this time shutting them out 17-0. This was a huge blow to East Bay's chances at promoting this season. This loss effectively put them 2 games behind Best Coast with 2 games to go.

The other matchup saw Dallas hosting Best Coast. Best Coast took an early 7-0 lead, but Dallas rallied and went into the 4th quarter leading 10-7. With time running down, it looked like Dallas would spring the upset until the young kiwi QB, Craig Stirling, engineered a nice drive, capping it off with a TD strike to Isidro Serra with 3:26 to go, putting Best Coast up 14-10. The Best Coast defense then forced a 3 and out to seal a nice come-from-behind victory.

In the real standings (HvH), here's what it looks like so far:
4 - 0 Best Coast Crew
2 - 2 Brooklyn Barracudas
2 - 2 East Bay Pirates
0 - 4 Dallas Desperados

Best Coast needs a win against either Brooklyn or East Bay to wrap up the division. Brooklyn and East Bay both have to beat Best Coast and start really running up the score on the bots, since Best Coast also has a substantial point differential lead on them both. (73 points over Brooklyn and 114 points over East Bay)

TEAM ROUND UP
Best Coast
They've virtually locked up the division now. Assuming everyone continues to beat the bots, the worst they can finish is in a tie with either East Bay or Brooklyn, but their large PD lead gives them the tie-breaker at this point. It would take a sustained offensive explosion to close the PD gap by either of the chasers

Brooklyn
Brooklyn is doing what they need to do so far, not only did they beat East Bay, but the shut out is a big plus in the PD race in case Best Coast stumbles. Right now, Brooklyn is probably playing the best football in the division and has a legitimate shot running the table. Question is, is it to late? First they have to take care of business against Dallas this weekend though. Dallas is not going to roll over though, as Best Coast found out last weekend and this should be a tough hard-fought game. A loss will eliminate Brooklyn from the chase for the division.

East Bay
Despair may be setting in in the East Bay locker room, not only is it looking more and more like they won't promote this season, it looks like they may end up finishing third in the division. Their hopes aren't dead yet, but they're going to need to step it up AND hope for help. There may need to be some tweaks made to the line up for next season to get them over the hump.

Dallas
Last weeks come-from-ahead loss was disheartening for Dallas, who looked like they were going to finally get that allusive first HvH win since moving up to Div. IV. Dallas has some talented young backups they want to work into the line up but their Region Cup run has put that on hold while they try to stay alive in the tournament. Once their Cup run finally ends there will be another round of line up changes as they prepare for season 5.

Week 10 Power Ranking for Div IV.24
1 - Best Coast Crew
2 - Brooklyn Barracudas (-73)
3 - East Bay Pirates (-571)
4 - Dallas Desperados (-635)

Regional Cup this week
As we predicted last week, Brooklyn gave the Top Division's Tennessee Orange all they wanted and more in the Region Cup this week, going into the 4th quarter tied 7-7. At that point, Tennessee's experience and stamina seemed to come into play. Tennessee's offense had 2 long time-consuming drives, resulting in 10 points, while their defense forced Brooklyn into back-to-back 3 and out's. It was a very nice showing though, proving that IV.24 is not to be overlooked. In the end, Brooklyn got sent home with a 17-7 loss.

Although their opponent was a human controlled team, the energy levels of their opponents players allowed Dallas to treat their Cup game against the Pittsburgh Maulers as a bot game. Dallas liberally played their backups and still scored on their first 5 possessions, jumping out to a quick 35-0 lead, before coasting to a 56-7 win. The win moved Dallas into the round of 32.

To advance to an unprecedented berth in the Sweet 16, Dallas will need to beat a tough D.III Grizzlie Bears team. The Bears have struggled a bit this season posting a 5th place record in D.III.6. Despite that, they've pulled off some nice wins against some tough teams and this will be a huge game for Dallas. Because I'm a homer, I'll pick Dallas to pull off the upset!
