silly transfer prices

ok...apologies for the rant...

transfer prices are getting a little daft due to people trying to take advantage of the new game and putting people up with ridiculous starting values.

browsed the market earlier and half the people on there aren't going to se because of reserves of things like 100k

I know there's supposed to be a financial element to the game, but there should also be some degree of sportsmanship...

would it not make sense to make the cost of posting someone on the market a % of their reserve price rather than a flat fee of 2500.

this way people can put players up for what ever they want but it will at least discourage the unnecessary high values by a relevent financial hit.

thoughts?

A. it's an interesting idea
B. it should have been in the suggestions thread so the admins see it.

there now to take off the Mod hat and evaluate it.

Honestly even though people are going crazy with the market you don't want to create an inherent reason NOT to sell. lets say they use your advice and make a, say 5%, tax on player sales, doesn't sound like much now not that hurtful, keeps the tax down to only 5k on a 100k sale BUT, what happens when we all get done with stadium building? Players are now fully developed and theres a level 14 tackler with 15 str who plays d-line should he go for 400k? more? what's that player worth to you? I can see that kind of player going for a million dollars eventually once the building economy gets settled. now you're up to a 50k transfer price! even with a million dollar sale I don't want to lose 50k of it to the transfer cost. and on the flip side, if a player only sells for 10k then it's a 500 dollar transfer fee, don't you think that would encourage crappy player sales?

I understand where you are coming from Stoo, and like Mercutioh said, it's a nice idea and all, but I don't think it's neccessary...

People can pay whatever they like. Anyway, who are we to decide what a players worth is? Obviously, there are some dodgy deals out there, and we do try our best to speculate these...However, 99.99% are genuine. Whether that means some players are stupid for paying over the odds prices, who knows

sorry, i don't mean tax on final selling price, more the initial reserve price they're put on the market for.

obviously people should be able to bid what ever they want for a player, and decent player should always sell to their value. i just suspect there are some people trying to take advantage of new players with unrealistic opening prices.

You are completely right. But would you not do the same if you could make a few extra bucks?

I for one, start my youngsters off at $5,000 and let them auction off. Perhaps we are too honest, stoo? Perhaps...

I usually just throw them on for $4k and see what happens. I haven't missed a sale yet!

I think Stoo's idea is quite good. In reply to Mercutioh's point about the rise in future of sensible starting prices, the figure could be capped. So the cost of listing a player might be something like 5% of the reserve price, up to a maximum of $10K.

I originally listed players very low. I actually did the first one at $1k until I realised that unless a bidding war started I would lose money.
But then I noticed rubbish players at £100k and $125k on the market, with bids on them, and realised I was probably selling myself short. The market is what it is, things are worth whatever people will pay for them. Is Darren Bent worth £16M? Is Javon Walker worth whatever ridiculous money it was the Raiders gave him? It's the cost of that player in a daft market.
So I now list players at $20-35k, which is still starting below many but takes account of what seems to be an increased interest in buying in the market.
