I don't agree with your example, since the best ranked team might loose a match on an offday, but if no other team has done enough to knock them from the number one spot then they should stay there.

Take my team as example. I probably should be number one, since I have beaten quite a few strong teams this season, but I am not because I messed up in one game and had a bot defense. That is the reverse situation.

Ate the rankings perfect? No. Do they give a good indication? Yes.
