Negative. I had a player last season that did not retire as he was on a national team. I am a human manager.

Well, we could test this out if someone picks up Jett Bowden. Solid QB, but obviously at club level I'm more than sorted myself.

I think he'd still have a place on the NT too as a #2 or #3 guy (I see McDougall overtaking him, and who knows with Bandy getting a bit old). I think we have 1-2 really solid prospects coming through (ones that haven't retired or ended up on bot teams anwyay) but in the immediate future it's a bit bare (given we just passed a bit of a golden age).

I'll only hang onto McDougall for S18. Welsh will be ready to go and overtaken McDougall in 2 seasons. Then Leslie is climb up there also.

I'll give it a shot. If the immediate future at QB is as barren as you say, let's see if we can keep Bowden going into his mid 30's, when the next generation should be ready to make their debuts.

Barren probably is a bit harsh to describe the upcoming QB situation. It just wont be a plentiful as previous few seasons. We've had a alot to pick from recently of great caliber, and al mostly equal.

I have a QB2 and QB3 that will be far beyond the current crop. But That is only 1 of 3 possible QBs that we would normally select for the roster. So others have to come from somewhere.

You're right, bad choice of words. Leslie is "the chosen one" from what I can see. There is the aforementioned Grima, now leaving the Convicts. I also remember reading the Trons having a beast in the making as well. I'm trying hard to get my guy up to scratch. There are many others, no doubt you guys know of a lot more candidates. These are just the ones that I know.

There are some young 4* talents with high INT / CON floating around div II. They could be worth a look one day.

We have a few notable 5* guys with high intel floating around, but quite a few of them have fairly low consistency AND have ceased in development (bot teams). Ablett has a couple of build issues, similar to McDougall initially (who is better now, but definitely had to debut a bit earlier than expected), but he doesn't have an active team behind him, doesn't have as high primaries, and has a lot less consistency. Lynden Tenace is a better all round build (19s which is nice), low cons (but better than Ablett), but really bad stamina. Like, worse than Bryan Bandy when he was first called up (an area he practically doubled later on). Like, not even close to yellow + bot team. Jarrod Jolly would likely be the best of the rest, has much better con than the above two, reasonable INT, reasonably built (though uneven), but also doesn't really have stamina either (though at least it's yellow... even if minimum yellow). We could always also call up Pierce Boyle again if he hasn't retired hahaha (though he'd be hitting decline next season). He's got the skills, but also lacks consistency.

Then, unless we find some new 5* guys we've previously missed (it can happen, the Bandy pickup was a bit like that, and he really took over a season later), we're down to 4.5* BPOS. There were some nice ones, but they're all either overaged, since retired, or a bit iffy. That said, the amount of these guys looked at so far (given our previous QB stocks) is pretty low, so there may be some solid 4.5* guys out there. Jeff DeLorean comes to mind (Tiger Bay Buccs QB), though from salary alone appears to be limited to the 18 range (which can still do the job of course).

So yeah, there are options, but it just looks barren compared to previous incarnations (the fact that Jett Bowden only ever got called up this season and subsequently, may only ever play 1 NT game is pretty indicative of how spoilt we were).

EDIT: Also, just because QB prospects are sold onwards doesn't mean they can't still make a contribution! I see McDougall likely staying in the team until 30 at least, regardless of whether he's leading the Wildcats.

Goodbye to Alwyn Hall, a super future Aussie WR that just couldn't make the Convict roster. As the coach I am not sure about the decision to release him but he just doesn't sit well with present Convict philosophy. I will be monitoring his progress, especially in a couple of seasons.

Also, very similar stories with Asier Saez and Ernest McCallum. All players to look for in the future.

All departing for new clubs:-

SF/ILB Marcel Dill - 242 weeks at club, cheap import that became a long time favourite. Still on the German National Team.

DL Gilbert Shaw - 297 weeks at club, played in the very first game for the club.

RB/TE/WR Nathan Jones - 273 week at club, been around since the early days. Still on the Australian National Team.
