WHO SHOULD MANAGE UK NT SEASON 33

Herewith what I hope is a constructive thought based upon Sredna's most helpful post:

The next UK manager should be appointed for 3 seasons - give him/her a chance to build a team. If they win the world cup, then they should be renewed for 3 more campaigns.

What do you think?

I will not apply to be the next UK manager, as I've already had my shot.

I think that it would be nice if the next UK manager was someone managing a team in Division 1 or 2 who has not yet had the opportunity to lead the national team.

Sorry to be so opinionated - but lockdown evenings are rather boring and I played as a DE/OLB ( I think they call them EDGEs these days) in the UK and US and everyone knows what pass rushers are like!!

The Heineken is flowing - well, it was on offer at Morrisons as part of their evil ploy to lure me away from Tescos - and so are the ideas:-

1) The UK should establish a national scouting committee to make the scouting more manageable by sharing it - perhaps someone could scout the Oceanic teams, someone else could scout the Asian teams, someone could scout the top half of a larger league like North America, someone could scout the bottom half of North America, etc.

What do you think?

2) Does it matter how many times a player has played for a national team? Even if it does matter, how much does it matter within the wider scheme of things? Will a player who has played 50 times for their country play any better than a player who has never played for their country before? In short, does experience playing at international level matter?

What do you think?

It's no wonder they don't want the job as you're putting them into a lose/lose situation. If they win it ? It was expected. But if not ? What then ?
Nobody's disputing that Abcat is one of the most successful managers from the UK (if not THE). He's got my respect (not that it'll make any diff to his life ). And on top of that he's a genuine good guy ( eg. played his strongest team when he could've botted to benefit himself regards AFLC ) and offers his help etc.

I'm guessing he's busy concentrating on his own team as he hasn't won anything since season 29 and may want to put that right. (Just guessing, have no idea how he feels).

No, it does make a difference - it's nice to be appreciated.

In all fairness though I'm just slightly weary of the game and plodding along, trying to stop my team going bust. They're still doing ok, but for the last few seasons I've been promising to myself it'll be the last one, and I just keep having one more and one more after that.

GooseyGander it looks like you have the energy to be a superb manager, if you don't distract yourself by arguing with Steve (and vice versa!). Just... scout. Just literally go through all the Brit teams and teams in high up divisions and look for five star players with good salaries and make lists of them and post the lists here. Use a spreadsheet if you must, but honestly it just takes a couple hours of lockdown boredom to scan through most of the active teams and find a bunch of new players. Scout the youngish ones with good salaries and make a point of keeping tabs on the ones that haven't been wrecked by crap training.

Once you've found the best players tactics kind of look after themselves.

Good luck to whoever gets it, have fun with it, and just don't do a Kevin Keegan.

Thanks Terry.

But, I am not going to apply to be the next UK manager.

I think that someone else who has not yet had a go deserves their chance.

Ideally an experienced manager whose team is in Division 1 or 2.
