That is correct.
This week, the maintenance and wages won't be calculated.

Oh, great.

So this odd delay of expenses caused me to sell players and set a strategy that most likely results in a relegation from TD: If the week without wages and maintenance has been in the extra off-season week, I could have planned otherwise. Why should the 'free week' be in the new season when the statement was that it would be in the off-season?

Perhaps a fair and correct warning about the week would have been useful as I (and others) where under the threat of bankruptcy. Had the free week been before first week of the season, I would have cleared the financial disaster. Might have had only one week with more than -400.000$ in the bank and could have built up and projected otherwise with my players.

Actually, on 15.9. I wrote the quoted statement below, confirming that the expenses will not be calculated in either 1st or 2nd week of the new season.
We didn't know exactly when, because the move to new server was not an easy task. The code behind GI is now 15 odd years old and wasn't compatible with the new libraries, PHP, ... on the new server.
We didn't know how stable everything would be (like the BMI calculator that didn't work at first)... and that's why we wanted a week or two before we start recompiling the tools (like economy updater) on the server again.

2. In the 1st or 2nd (not determined yet) week of the new season, we will "skip" the wages and maintenance expenses.

The point is, it should have been considered in advance that managers would be severely impacted by an additional week of financial processing with no earnings coming in. Ideally wages should have been suspended in the off season until the server migration was successfully completed to avoid any uncertainly. I ended up having to do a fire sale of half a dozen first-teamers to avoid the threat of bankruptcy as a result of this. I've come out of it okay - a weaker team but overall probably in a more financially stable position going forward - but am sure others have been hit harder by it.

Uh, does pre-production rings a bell ?

Like preparing the server in advance, testing the code after the updates, testing with a copy of the database. Doing that weeks in advance to have time to test it thoroughly.
And then the migration is just updating the database, something that can be done during the 2 weeks interseason.

Yes, it does "ring a bell", thank you very much.
And we did all that, we even gave a "secret url" to a few GI players to test the game on new server that was running a copy of the database and all the cron jobs.
But there is no way you can predict/test every scenario in the game with so many different mechanisms (PHP scripts, C/C++ programs, etc...).
When the thing goes live with many more users at once using the game, it's a scenario you just cannot test.

And guess what, 2 errors were still found (up until now) after the server moved (one bigger is the BMI calculator that refused to work and it seems no-one from "testing group" catched the "bug" beforehand).

We could also ask, why some of you guys are running football teams on a paycheck-to-paycheck basis, so that one extra expenses week can get you in trouble?
And it's an extra week, we know, but in this game you never go bankrupt in 1 week. You get warned for 1 week

The 'correct' Admin response in this scenario -
We're sorry to hear some managers have been adversely affected by the additional financial processing which occurred at short notice. We've taken your feedback on board and will try to plan/communicate things better next time.

Actual Admin response -
[somewhat angry retaliation laced with sarcasm]
["You're all managing your teams badly so it's basically your fault"]

Simply amazing.

Yes, we are sorry that some of you got into problems because of this.

My "just a tad sarcastic" answer was directly aimed at Vikingx for his part of the "sarcasm" (like "ring a bell anyone" )
That's why I quoted him.

But, I'm sorry again, we did let you know beforehand what will happen.
And the fact that nobody can get bankrupt in 1 week is just that - a fact - and it is stated in FAQ as well.
