I signed up on deep route shortly after finding this site, I just haven't gotten into it much yet. I got in towards the end of the season and my team was bad, so I decided to just let it manage itself for the rest of the season and I'd get in it heavier in the offseason, especially for the draft.

Squish, I believe I'm in a league with you. You have the Toledo Storm in the Laid Back League right? I'm buckeye22 who took over the Chicago Suds.

Cool man! The Suds actually have a decent team, they just need to be managed correctly.

One thing you need to make sure to do is renegotiate the salaries of you best players. It's the end of the year and if a player's contract runs out, they will go onto the free agent list. It's simple to renegotiate and money isn't an issue in our league (b/c there are no bonuses). Just click a player and scroll down the page to the renegotiate section. There isn't too much to think about.

Give the game a chance and I'm sure you'll like it!

Oh, and for you guys that want to know what deeproute is before joining, I can think of no better way to show it than with the replay of the Super Bowl game I played tonight (actually it was in the league buckeye mentioned). It was a nail-biter the whole way! Here's the link:

Good luck in deeproute guys! Let me know if you have any questions or post them in the forum (I'm the moderator) and I'll make sure it gets answered

Yeah they look like a pretty good team, just a few guys who are getting older and could use some quality backups and a few positions that could use an upgrade. I was looking at the league history and noticed they were in the playoffs next year, so I'm hoping that it shouldn't be too long before I contend. I'll definitely give the game a chance, I can tell it's in depth and that's what I've been looking for.

just for reference, I'd like to point out that a team can be renamed and given a new helmet etc. at anytime int between seasons. So after the playoffs are over, you can edit those things.

well, normally a draft takes tons of research time to go well. I'm guessing that you won't have the add-ons that allow you to rank the players.

If you have any of the add-ons, you can pre-rank the players yourself. I'll post the draft strategy of a friend of mine for reference:

Thoth said:

The draft and planning of my team is my favorite part of the game so I spend a ton of time going through the players. The basics of my draft prep are as follows.

-I find 2 or 3 postions that I dont want/need to draft and go through the list and move all of the players of those positions in the top 100 to bottom of the ranking list by hitting the #384 button.

-The computer ranks certain positions diferently…like FB,K and P are ranked very poorly and some times you can find gems of other positions further down the player rankings. I will go throught the entire list of players and move any player with an overall max ability in the 70's as long as they are not one of the positions I am not drafting into the top 100.

-I begin to rank the players by looking at their skills. If a player is lacking in skills that I feel are important for the position I will move them to the bottom of the list by hitting the #384 button. If they are still good enough to draft but are I will hit the -100 button and move them to the 100 position.

-I will then go through the players again and rank again to make sure they are how I want them. I spend a lot of time ranking all of the picks up to my first round pick. Becasue I am moving players out of the top 100, players from positions I dont want to move into the top 100. I just hit the #384 button on them to move them to the bottom of the ranking list.

In the end I have roughly one hundred player ranked followed by all of the best players that the computer ranked of the positions I am targeting and you will avoid draft players with high overall ratings but are missing important skills. In my last draft, I ranked ~120 players and drafted 6 of my 7 players out of my ranked players. Its nice to not have to drop newly draft players because they are of no help to your team. I target 43 or 44 players returning from the previous year so that I have room to target players in FA and fill gaps not filled by the draft.

Hope this helps!

I got burnt on draft strategy this season. I went through position by position and ranked players, then my free trial that gave me all the features ran out and I couldn't rank them overall or make any more changes(which I was planning on doing). So I doubt my draft goes very well this season, hopefully I'm wrong.
