I think weighting them the same is fair enough, there is a single winner from each region for both.

Harsh.

How does the other finalist and USNT coach-candidate-by-excellence answer this charge?

If you look at the cup runs, you will see significantly more difficult paths in the past, most certainly in the finals (with wins over some pretty good TD teams in the finals and on the path to the finals). No disrespect intended to any of the teams I faced this season

Season 14 - faced 3 TD teams on the road to the cup
Season 15 - faced 3 TD teams on the road to the cup
Season 17 - faced 5 TD teams
Season 19 - faced 1 TD team

Makes more sense now

A few months ago I tried to implement something similar to some proposals..with a few tweaks and updates here is the result:
I used this arbitrary ranking system:
Ironbowl win: 5 pts
Ironbowl rr: 2 pts
League/Cup: 1 pts with multipliers: 2x (CE, ASE, NAm); 1x (CSAm, E-B, Oc, EE); 0.5x (Asia,Af&Ar)

RANKING (top 20):

1 Guanacos 30
2 Grizzlys de St Laurent 27
3 Sparta Nijkerk 26
t4 Wilhelmshaven Seawolves 24
Badgers 24
t6 Hakers 17
San Diego Blitzkrieg 17
t8 Rotterdam Bashers 15
Mordland Colders 15
Orlando Gators 15
t11 New York Midgets 12
WKS Slask Wroclaw 12
t13 Slumbering Skink 11
Zarnovica Terminators 11
Monsters of Midway 11
16 Reservoir Docs 10
17 Weasels 9
18 Kentucky Thoroughbreds 8
19 Bat Yam Raiders 7,5
t20 Westside Wildcats 7
Kasztelan Poznan 7
Ostankino Emo Duck-Bills 7
Green Bay Blazers 7

It's nice to have a point system, but in my opinion it isn't essential since there is no way to determine the strenght of a region and simply being in a HoF is an impressive achievement!
btw, the current top15 in the HoF is pretty much spot on the only change is Kasztelan Poznan out, Monsters of Midway in..Against MoM is that they never won a league title (but they faced 2/3 hall of famer every season), while Poznan consistency (cup in s.2,12,14, title in s.13,15) could be rewarded. I can see Abcat point in including K.Poznan, but it could mean 2-3 teams with similar achievements should be considered

Have never really considered a defined method of ranking/accepting each team - I honestly just think it over for a while and am like, yeah, that team 6th, this team 7th...

Given that this thread has become a lot more important than I ever expected, it might warrant a slightly more scientific or democratic approach. I am well pleased Luca's mathematical method has matched my slapdash method so closely.

I would urge you to omit any team that's never been an IB participant.

They belong on some sort of other Honorary Mention page perhaps.

To be completely honest, a team with a lot of AFLC births without a single IB birth belongs more in a HOS!

I would agree with this if you amend it to being an IB finalist. I'm sure that's what you meant, as there are teams that participate in the AFLC that are not perhaps the best teams of all time

But in your league, you faced 18 TD teams.

Which is easier? Facing 5 max TD teams or facing 18?

I get what you are saying. But I don't think the cup is any more difficult than league. You end up facing the same TD teams in both comps.

Well, the biggest difference is that the cup is 1 and done. League play is not 1 and done, in fact the winner of the TD is generally anywhere from 2 to 5 losses. If you factor in that over the last few seasons, anywhere from 1 to 3 teams have been bot, now you are lowering the league games that matter down to 12-16 games. Again, they are not 1 and done even then. Let's just agree that they should be of similar value when reviewing a teams overall worthiness for the HoF. The bigger consideration is making adjustments due to what region you compete in and of course giving much bigger weight to making it to the IB finals
